APPLICATION MODERNIZATION

Keep the legacy value. Make the system changeable again.

We assess code, data, integrations, and delivery together, then choose what to retain, replace, replatform, refactor, or rearchitect and move it in stages.

THE PROBLEM

If this sounds familiar.

If even one of these is familiar, this service closes that gap.

  • No one knows the whole system

Docs and owners are gone, so even a small change has an unknown blast radius.

  • A big-bang rewrite

Running the old system while building the new one stretches until schedule and budget collapse.

  • Technical debt moved, not fixed

Changing the hosting platform leaves the same code, data, and delivery bottlenecks in place.

SCOPE

What, how far, what we leave behind.

We reconstruct the real architecture and delivery constraints of a running application, select the right treatment for each component, and execute in small, controlled increments.

How far

  • Application, data, and integration dependency assessment
  • Retain, retire, replace, replatform, refactor, and rearchitect decisions
  • Target architecture and transitional-state design
  • API and data boundary extraction with legacy code improvement
  • Parallel run, traffic migration, and data cutover
  • Observability, deployment automation, and operating-model adoption

Deliverables

  • Current-state architecture and dependency map
  • Modernization decision matrix and prioritized backlog
  • Target and transitional architectures with ADRs
  • Phased delivery plan and SoW
  • Test, cutover, and rollback plan
  • Runbooks and outcome dashboard
HOW WE WORK

How we work.

  1. AssessReconstruct code, data, traffic, integration, and delivery flows; establish baselines
  2. Design the transitionChoose treatments, define target and interim states, waves, and exit criteria
  3. Modernize in stagesSeparate and validate bounded changes, then shift traffic progressively
  4. Stabilize & hand overVerify data integrity, rollback, observability, and delivery outcomes before handover

We modernized a live system by separating the riskiest boundaries first.

We reconstructed the aging monolith's code, data, and delivery boundaries, then separated high-risk modules in stages. Existing integrations stayed intact while availability improved and deployment lead time fell.

FAQ

Frequently asked.

Does modernization mean rebuilding the entire system?+
No. We decide what to keep, replace, replatform, refactor, or rearchitect component by component. A full rebuild is reserved for the boundaries that truly require it.
How is this different from cloud migration?+
A migration can change only where software runs. Modernization changes code, data, integrations, delivery, and operations so future changes cost less.
Can you assess a system with no documentation?+
Yes. We trace code, traffic, deployment configuration, databases, and external integrations to reconstruct the real architecture and dependencies.
Can this work when the service cannot stop?+
We design parallel operation, data synchronization, progressive traffic shifts, and explicit rollback conditions. Changing everything at once is not our default.
What do we receive from the first phase?+
A current-state dependency map, modernization decision matrix, prioritized backlog, target and transitional architecture, and a phased execution plan.

Before you rewrite, choose the order of change.

We review the environment and challenge first, then define the right execution scope together.
