App modernization that made operations safer and leaner

Modernized an aging monolith with zero downtime, turning it into an operation that's resilient to failure and fast to deploy.

THE CHALLENGE

Why it was hard.

An old monolith shook as a whole on even small changes. Deploys were slow and scary, and when something broke, tracing the cause was hard. A big-bang rewrite was off the table — they needed to modernize gradually without stopping operations.

Constraints

  • No service interruption
  • Incremental cutover instead of a one-shot rewrite
  • Preserve existing data and integrations
OUR APPROACH

What we did.

  1. DiagnoseMap coupling, failure points, and deploy bottlenecks
  2. Decoupling designDraw boundaries and peel off the riskiest modules first
  3. Incremental modernizationIntroduce containerization, CI/CD, and observability in stages
  4. Operational handoverDeploy automation, monitoring, and runbooks
OUTCOME

Outcome.

Peeling off the riskiest modules first, we modernized with zero downtime. Availability rose and deploy lead time fell, so small changes ship often and with confidence. Tracing and recovering from failures got faster too.
